Hot Water Installation- Sydney Plumbers Expert Tips

Installing a hot water system can give peace of mind especially when taking showers on cold winter mornings. There are a number of tips that you should always consider when installing a hot water system by yourself or having hired Sydney plumbers.

Always record the serial numbers of any installation; room heaters, stoves and hot water systems, to be used for future references. When inspecting burst hot water services, the unit must be drained for safety reasons and also because you will be able to work more quickly. Override the time clock on electric hot water chores to confirm that a full circuit is present on the hot water service. Lastly when installing a system have all brass removed from the system since they can be reused again.

In case you need to repair the system, take the following in to consideration:

  • The thermostat and elements on the heater are the ones which mainly need repairing. For gas hot water heaters the thermocouple is the one which may cause problems.
  • When changing anything on an Electric hot water system, replace elements while the tank is full. Do not drain it to make any repairs. The thermostat should also be replaced when making any repairs.
  • For gas hot water systems where the thermocouple and pilot has previously been replaced, only the unit panel should be replaced.
  • If you encounter a burnt out mounting block of wires in an electric heater it may mean that the wires were not well screwed on to the mounting block.
  • You should replace ball valves on cisterns and hot water systems with similar bearings do not substitute with rubber.
  • In cases where you have instantaneous water services, replace water section if the water is lukewarm. You should not adjust the winter/summer controls.
  • For Bosch Hydro warm water units, you must check the on switches clearly. You should also check the pressure reduction valve is well installed and the cold feed to the temperature valve is well plumbed up after any pressure reduction.
  • In a hot water system, if the pilot is going out and the gas pressure is ok, the pilot had been cleaned and the thermocouple changed then the unitrol may have a problem. You should therefore contact the maker and ask for a new unitrol.
